Richard & Suzi Mills hosted their first non-zoom tasting, and were blessed with a wonderful warm evening which allowed 25 Cellar Society members and preferred guests to do the tasting and enjoy dinner al fresco on their expansive patio.
The wines were all French Pinot Noirs from 2018 and 2020. With the exception of one from Sancerre (which incidentally was the #2 wine), all the wines were from Burgundy. While there was a diversity of opinion as usual, with all but the winning wine getting both first and last place votes, there were 2 clear favorites earning 84 and 85 points respectively: The 2020 Domaine Hubert Lignier Morey-Saint Denis Trilogie ($109) and the 2020 Domaine Claude Riffault Sancerre Rouge La Noue ($34). The best value was clearly the Sancerre with a price point which would allow you to purchase 3 bottles for the price of one of the #1 wine. Interestingly, the group found all four of the 2020 wines preferable to the 2018 vintages.
