Amarone Tasting, November 8, 2025

Chef Indra and sous-chef Diane prepared a homemade dinner for the Amarone tasting event. Vince and Karen graciously welcomed the group to their home for the second consecutive month. Eight wines were sampled, two each from 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. One wine from each year was moderately priced, while the other was more high-end. 

The wine we have selected for the tasting is the northern Italian varietal Amarone, from the Venuto region in Italy, referred to by one critic as Italy’s most “flamboyant” wine!   Unlike the traditional Italian reds, in the making of Amarone, the grapes are dried following harvest before they are pressed and fermented.  The drying of the grapes concentrates the sugars and changes the balance of juice and skin resulting in a bold, powerful and tannic wine, generally higher in alcohol than the traditional Italian varietals.
