April 13: White Burgundy, San Francisco

Our April event was more than just a tasting, as it was also the time to celebrate the 80th birthday of one of our longest-termed members David Gibson!  David and his wife Betty even treated us all to the fine meal and celebratory cake.  Not surprisingly, there was a full double pour for this event with 30 tasters.

Considering the wines were all 2016 White Burgundies, there was a fairly narrow range of scores for the first 7 bottles but there was a clear least favorite, the Alain Chavy Puligny Montrachet (202 points).  The favorite was Bottle 7 (Domaine Louis Jadot) with 103 points, followed by Bottle 3 (Bouchard Pere et Fils) with 113 points.  The 3rd place wine was Bottle 6 (Louis Jado (Duc de Magenta) which also had 113 points but had fewer 1st place votes.  Here are the full results with the voting by each of the tasters:  2019-04 White Burgundy

ANNOUNCEMENT

WHAT:     White Burgundy (DOUBLE POUR)
WHERE:   San Francisco
WHEN:    Sat. April 13 at 6 P.M.
HOSTS:    David & Betty Gibson

This is an important White Burgundy Tasting! Hopefully, the winners will be candidates for the Cellar Society cellar! More precisely, the White Burgundies will be Chardonnays from the three major Burgundy areas – Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, and Chassagne-Montrachet. This is the world-class wine- growing area about 6-8 miles south of Beaune, France.

We will be tasting wines that are rated 90 and higher, priced from $50 to $100.  This is a double-pour so this is an opportunity to bring guests. There will be a total of 38 place settings – so take advantage of this opportunity to invite your friends.

Please let us know if you will not attend.  We estimate the cost of the tasting will be around between $50 to $53 per person, depending on the number of tasters.

The tasting will be followed by a catered dinner hosted and paid for by David and Betty Gibson in honor of David’s 80th Birthday (Too Young to be that Old!).  Please, No Gifts or Cards!
