Another excellent virtual tasting was held this Saturday. The number of wines was limited to 6 bottles this time to allow the presenters to go into more detail about each wine and also to make sure the same wines were available to the Donner/Tahoe contingent since they also participated in the tasting. Kudos to Lisa Long for creating an excellent summary of the wine aging processing as well as thorough details of all the wines we tasted.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Please join us for a special Zoom “Virtual Tasting” of premium California Chardonnays on Saturday, August 8 at 6 pm. We are offering blind tastes of several 2017 California Chardonnays selected from among the best winemakers and vineyards in the State.
Subject to confirmation of how many tasters we have, the cost will be $35 per person.
The wines will be available from “Regional Ambassadors” located in San Francisco (David and Betty Gibson), the East Bay (Steve Smith and Bob Simoni) and the North Bay (Ed and Lisa).
Tasters will bring their boxed, clean glass jars to these Regional Ambassadors either in advance or on the day of the tasting. If you do not have jars let Ed know.
In an effort to simplify the program and allow more time to discuss the wines, we are planning to start the tasting at 6 pm, rank them and vote by a firm 7 pm deadline.
A structured discussion focused on Chardonnay wines will follow the vote and reveal, moderated by Bette Felton and punctuated by a few prepared comments by certain knowledgeable Members. Topics will include information about relevant vintages, differences to expect from the leading AVA’s (Sonoma, Napa, our Central Coast and France), as well as tasting notes. Please let Ed know if there are additional topics you would like to address.
We had hoped to include a mini-Champagne Tasting to help select one for the Repast, but since Champagne doesn’t travel well the Co-Presidents suggested that the Members nominate their favorite Champagne or Sparkling Wine, and then the Wine Committee will make the final selection. Nominations are now open!
We hope you will enjoy this evening, the premium Chardonnays and the opportunity to socialize “virtually.”
