With permission from her employer and adhering to all COVID protocols, Laura held her VERY FIRST tasting at her place of work, SWA Group of landscape architects in Sausalito, where she is head of Human Resources. The early evening was comfortable outside for the pre-tasting, but we moved inside their very large conference room for the tasting and dinner when a definitely cool breeze picked up.
Laura began her presentation with the comment that these will not be your college Chablis … and no they were not! Well before the voting started people began praising the wine selection, and the suggestion was made that the winner (as yet undetermined) should be acquired for our cellar. Several of the wines were close together in the ranking, except for the winner at 77 points (vs. #2 at 83 points) and at an affordable price. The average wine in the tasting cost $76, but the winner, Christian Moreau Chablis Vaillon Premier Cru from Wine.com at $65, was confirmed to be a leading candidate for the cellar.
Laura’s presentation was well received, and her PowerPoint included a YouTube video about the terroir and an interview about the wine-making philosophy in Chablis. She also cleverly integrated Google Translate into her presentation to pronounce wines, names and places. (For the record, no one present challenged the pronunciation.) Of note, the most expensive wine again came in dead last, as with the March, May and June tastings, .
