Dec. 13, The Repast, virtual

Like most events this year, we were unable to hold the Repast as originally planned at the St. Francis Yacht Club. However, because the membership was in dire need of something to celebrate this year, the Executive Committee decided to hold a virtual Repast using wines from the Club cellar. The idea was embraced by the membership and Ed Coyne and Lisa Long came up with the idea of using virtual background themes from classic black & white movies. Members were free to choose whatever movie they wanted, examples of some selected were Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and Duck Soup. Much thanks is due to Steve Smith who came up with a way to equitably divide the Cellar wines with members at various locations and mailed them to those who were not in the Bay Area.

From 5:45 to 7:00 PM, we all met via Zoom and discussed the wines that we would be serving with our own food choices.

Wine Presenters:
David Gandara – 2013 Chardonnay, Varner “Bee Block-Spring Ridge Vineyard”
Betty Hood-Gibson – 2013 Pinot Noir, Dumol, Ryan, Green Valley
Rick Taylor – 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Paul Hobbs “Crossbarn”
Steve Smith – Wine pairing for “Lovable Feast” appetizer.

Some members had a private chef prepare their meals, others had takeout food and some even prepared their own. Everyone seemed to enjoy the time we had together on screen, and I’m the sure the wines that were drunk afterwards did not disappoint. My personal favorite was the 2013 Du Mol Pinot Noir.
