Monterey County Pinot Noir, March 9, 2024

Cellar Society Members were treated to a selection of wonderful Pinot Noirs from Monterey County, with 4 coming from the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation and 4 from nearby areas of the larger Monterey County appellation. The top 2 wines were from the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation while the 3rd & 4th wines were from the Monterey County appellation. Best values were the 2020 Wrath wines that finished 2nd & 3rd and were priced at $49 and $39 respectively. Both Wrath and Hahn wines were purchased directly from the tasting rooms located in the Carmel Plaza in Carmel-by-the-Sea. The Rustique and Scheid Vineyards wines were purchased at the wineries located near the vineyards by the Salinas River watershed. Here’s the final results with group rankings and purchase prices.

The cost of the tasting was $33 for members. The meal was provided by Vanessa’s catering and cost $60 per person. Menu items were as follows:

2 salad choices – Caesar with anchovies & Butter lettuce with walnuts and apples

Veggies – Roasted asparagus and Creamed spinach

Starch – Smashed Yukon gold potatoes with butter

2 Entrees – Portobello mushrooms &  Pork Loin Sate style  

Dessert  – Blueberry Cake with ice cream
