Payment Policy
Because the Cellar Society is only open to invited members, there is an element of trust that doesn’t exist in other public tasting groups. Consequently, pre-payment for tastings is not required because there is an assumption that all those who RSVP for an event will make the required payment, even if they cannot attend due to last minute issues. If after RSVP’ing for an event, you are no longer able to attend or want to change from a double pour to a single pour, contact the event host ASAP. If they haven’t given the headcount to the caterer or distributed an email with the amount due for each attendee, then they may be able to remove you from the attendee list or change the number of pours without cost to you. If it’s too late to cancel and avoid financial obligation, then you are entitled to a proportional amount of leftover food and wine so ask a friend to bring some home for you.
Payment Methods
The Cellar Society of SF accepts checks, cash (only if necessary) and Zelle payments for dues, tastings and other events. Checks should be payable to “Cellar Society of SF” and mailed to our treasurer:

Payments Using Zelle
Our Account: cellarsocietysf@gmail.com
What is Zelle? Zelle is an option offered by many banks and credit unions in the U.S. It is a way to make a direct electronic payment from your checking account at your bank to another checking account at another bank. You register your email address with your bank and link it to your checking account. You log onto your bank and make a payment to your payee’s email address. It’s like Paypal but without any fees or intermediaries.
Step 1 – Set up Zelle with your bank or credit union:
- Go to the website www.zellepay.com.
- Click on “See If Your Bank Offers Zelle”.
- Find your bank or credit union in the list and click it.
- You should get a “Great News!” pop-up.
- Click on “Continue To Your Bank”.
- Login to your bank’s website as you normally do and follow the prompts to set up Zelle with your bank. This will allow you to send and receive payments through your bank using their Zelle option.
Step 2 – Pay your dues or other payment, as follows:
Log into your bank’s website and navigate to making a payment with Zelle. The website navigation will vary with each bank. The payee is
cellarsocietysf@gmail.com
which is linked to our checking account. Be sure to include “sf” in the email address.
Just Be Aware: “To err is human; to forgive is against company policy” (Alexander Pope, 1688-1744). Unlike many consumer bank products, if you make a mistake with Zelle, it is irreversable, just like a wire transfer. Michael Finney, ABC7’s Consumer Reporter, may be able to help but don’t count on it. For that reason, Zelle is very popular with scammers trying every conceivable means of social engineering or trickery to get your password or to get you to unknowingly make a payment to them.
Zelle is very convenient and many of our members have been using it elsewhere without a problem. Anyone who is savvy and aware should be able to do so as well.
